President Donald J. Trump has revoked the security clearance of his predecessor, former President Joe Biden, over the latter’s alleged mishandling of classified documents and memory lapses.

Trump announced the move through a post on Truth Social, framing the action as a direct response to Biden’s earlier decision back in 2021, when the real estate mogul left the White House after his first term as the 45th president.

“There is no need for Biden to continue receiving access to classified information,” Trump said in the post. “Therefore, we are immediately revoking Biden’s security clearances and stopping his daily intelligence briefings.”

According to Trump, Biden himself had “set this precedent in 2021.” At the time, Biden instructed the intelligence committee to stop Trump “from accessing details on national security, a courtesy provided to former presidents.”

The president’s post also referenced the findings of former Special Counsel Robert Hur, which scrutinized Biden’s handling of classified documents after his vice presidency. Hur’s report released last February painted a damning picture of the 82-year-old’s memory and judgment.

According to the report, Biden “willfully retained and disclosed classified materials” as a private citizen. The former special counsel also highlighted Biden’s frequent memory lapses, including his inability to recall key details about his vice presidency and the death of his son Beau.

“The Hur Report revealed that Biden suffers from “poor memory,'” Trump remarked. “Even in his ‘prime,’ [Biden] could not be trusted with sensitive information.”

Hur interview transcript reveals Biden’s struggles

In March, Fox News obtained a copy of the report’s transcript ahead of Hur’s testimony before Congress. The outlet confirmed Biden’s struggles during his interview with Hur.

Biden repeatedly asked when his vice presidency ended, at one point questioning, “in 2009, am I still vice president?” He also appeared confused about the timeline of Beau’s death, asking, “Was it 2015 he had died?” despite being reminded multiple times of the correct date. The transcript further revealed that Biden had brought up his son’s death during the interview, contradicting his public claim that Hur had inappropriately raised the topic. “How in the h**l dare he raise that,” Biden had said during a press conference, adding, “Frankly, when I was asked the question I thought to myself it wasn’t any of their d**n business.” However, the transcript showed Biden referencing Beau’s death while discussing his post-vice presidency activities, including his decision to write a book about his son.

For Biden, Trump’s revocation of his security clearance serves as a stark reminder of the political and personal battles that continue to define his post-presidency. But for the 45th and now 47th president, the move represents a moment of vindication as he turns the tables on his predecessor. Despite criticism, Trump framed the action as a matter of principle, vowing to “always protect” America’s national security.

The president ended his Truth Social post with two of his signature lines: “Joe, you’re fired. Make America Great Again.”
