A retiring female cop grabbed the opportunity to expose the “spineless and corrupt” Seattle Police Department (SPD) chief and local government officials via a scathing and brutal exit letter that she wrote instead of a “controlled” and mandatory exit survey.
Lieutenant Jessica Taylor served in SPD for 23 years. Before she finally bid her farewell, she handed in her long letter addressed to SPD Chief Adrian Diaz in lieu of the exit form, which asks questions like why an officer is leaving, who is their new employer, and what the officer liked most and least about working in the department.
She began the ‘unfiltered, raw, and unapologetic’ 15-page rant with: “This will be a brutally long letter, but after 23+ years, I have a few things to say. Each page is initialed so no one can do the typical SPD ‘I don’t know what happened. It just automatically deleted’ routine. Once upon a time, my job meant everything to me – my passion, pride, and reason for being. Little did I know it harbored a dark secret. Behind the scenes was a breeding ground of lies, deceit, favoritism, and rampant corruption. The department I once trusted turned out to be nothing more than a circus, with boisterous clowns running amok.”
In her own savage words, she cited Diaz’s failed leadership to have accelerated the city’s downhill slide straight to rock bottom. “The problems were already brewing before you came on the scene, but since your arrival, it’s been a free fall into anarchy and chaos,” she straightforwardly told the chief via the letter, attacking nearly every facet of law enforcement within the city. According to her, her time in the department was ‘soul-draining.’
“I refuse to ignore the demoralization and blatant disregard for our officers’ well-being under your leadership. SPD is dangerously understaffed, and the officers and their families are suffering. The hours are ruthlessly long, and due to the staffing crisis, these unsafe conditions are entirely unacceptable,” she said pointing out that her colleagues have also been working for years without a contract.
She slammed the meager $30,000 hiring incentive as this will never attract quality applicants and suggested that SPD develop a retention bonus. But it’s not just about the money. “It’s truly disheartening to witness your complete lack of concern for the welfare of those who faithfully serve alongside you… you are more interested in playing political games than leading with integrity,” the lieutenant added. She even blasted the chief for his quick climb on the corporate ladder. “Conveniently, more deserving candidates were bypassed for you to reach your current position. In a flash, you ascended from lieutenant straight to assistant chief, spending a week or two in that position before becoming deputy chief.”
And because of this, Taylor said, Diaz willingly became a “puppet, a ‘yes man,’ perfectly willing to throw the entire department under the bus to achieve your coveted spot as chief, complete with a fancy corner office.” She added: “You are a vindictive, power-hungry individual, and I wouldn’t trust you as far as I could throw you. You offered me an opportunity for an honest exit interview, and here it is. I will always stand up for what’s right and what I believe in even if I am standing alone.”
The outgoing police officer then called for an investigation. She told Diaz, “Your character is truly questionable at best, and the citizens of this once-great city deserve to know the truth – all of it.”
She ended the letter asking Diaz: “Did you seriously badge your way into the Taylor Swift concert and go to the front where people paid $1000s to be there? And don’t you dare say it was work-related because you haven’t done police work in years, if ever. If so, please review SPD Manual Section 5.001 (12) & 5.020 and report yourself to OPA immediately.”
Meanwhile, an SPD spokesperson released a statement saying: “While we don’t address personnel issues, the department is working alongside our city partners to restore the department to over 1,400 officers. We want our officers to feel valued and respected for their hard work every single day. We are committed to highlighting that work on a routine basis.”
Taylor also took a jab at the Seattle City Council, calling the institution ‘absurd.’ She also described the mayor as ‘spineless,’ and bashed “the leniency of the prosecutor’s office.”
These, together with SPD’s failed leadership, made Seattle a “playground for anarchists and criminals” who have overrun the city. And despite this, the ones in position “seem utterly unconcerned with the devastating consequences of their actions.”
In the West Coast seaport city, homeless people are seen slumped over in the streets and were still openly shooting up drugs, even after the city’s officials chose not to make public drug use legal. Pictures taken and published on DailyMail show a man using a hypodermic needle to inject drugs into his hand while propped outside a liquor store. There were also photos showing “addicts” who are spaced out and hunched over on the sidewalks, with paraphernalia strewn around them.
Last month, the city council voted not to pass legislation that would have allowed the City Attorney’s Office to prosecute public drug use cases. The move would have brought Seattle into compliance with the state’s new drug possession law, which makes the crime a gross misdemeanor.
Seattle has become the laughingstock of the whole world, Taylor lamented.
